About Us

Rick Jenkins has over 30 years of security experience, including work in San Diego, Las Vegas, and Tokyo, Japan.  

For the last 15 years he has proudly worked for the Seattle Public Library Security Division, winners of the “Team of the Year Award.”  As a Lead Security Officer, Rick is responsible for coordinating day-to-day operations at an eleven-story downtown public library and navigating all the issues that a dense urban environment presents. 

Rick is proud to present the following trainings for library staff:

• Transformational Security: Making Libraries Safer through Compassionate De-escalation

• Library Safety Audits: Best Practices for Maintaining a Safe Environment

In addition, Rick is available for Q&As with staff and consultation with library management.

In his spare time Rick enjoys walking his German Shepherd, Roman, spending time with his family, and gloating about the success of his fantasy football team.

Julia Parsons serves as the Assistant Director of a library, bringing a strong management background complemented by an MLIS and a degree in Ethnic Studies, with a focus on Indigenous and Latinx communities. Her expertise lies in outreach, customer service, and developing more effective and secure leadership teams. Julia is deeply passionate about mental health awareness and prioritizes the safety and well-being of both patrons and staff. Her mission is to foster libraries as inclusive, safe community hubs that serve diverse populations.

Julia hosts the following training sessions:

• Inclusive Service: Shifting from Exclusive to Welcoming Mindsets

In her free time, Julia enjoys watching horror films, spending quality time with her spouse, and exploring great books.
